Was one of your New Year’s resolutions to take better care of your skin? If so, join the club! Every January, people seek out resolutions that will make them look or feel better – and let’s be honest, taking better care of your skin can go a long way. Here are a few steps to help you shine in 2019!

  1. Wear sunscreen

Many people don’t know that sunscreen in the winter is still highly recommended by experts and dermatologists. While it may not look sunny out, UV rays actually penetrate winter clouds, and as much as 80 per cent of the sun’s rays can still reach through clouds, thus affecting our skin. Finding a lotion with SPF in it can help you protect your skin from the harmful rays of the sun.

  1. Drink water

Here’s one of the cheapest ways you can keep your skin in tip top shape. Drinking at least eight glasses a day works to detoxify your body and skin of toxins. Considering our bodies are composed of about 60 per cent water, it’s important that we keep up our water intake. Our bodily fluids include digestion, absorption, circulation, and saliva creation. The more water we drink, the easier it is for these things to function – and it doesn’t hurt that it helps our skin!

  1. Use natural products

Including natural products in your skincare routine is crucial. It’s like the saying “We are what we eat”. What we put on our body is just as important as what we put into it. Much of what’s in mainstream beauty products contain harmful chemicals, parabens and other ingredients that can dry out our skin, keeping consumers dependent on the product. Read the ingredient list and remember – awareness is key!
